Picnic in the Paddock

Eating outdoors is one of the many activities Australians love to do. When the weather is beautiful in Spring time why not have a lovely picnic. Growing up in Country New South Wales we would often have a picnic in the paddock. I went home to my family farm to photograph this shoot. The photographs highlight just some of the many yummy things to eat on a picnic, in particular my favourite, Rocky Road. So when you get the chance go outside and sit amongst nature and enjoy your scrumptious food with family and friends.

I absolutely love Hampton's inspired design. I love blue and white interiors as well the relaxed atmosphere the Hampton style entails. Here are a few gorgeous photos to help inspire your own interiors.

Banana Bread

The Best Ever Banana Bread Recipe

Preheat oven to 160C. Cream 125g butter and 1 cup lightly packed brown sugar together with electric mixer. Add three eggs, beating well between each one. Fold in 1 & 3/4 cups self raising flour and 75g pecans. Stir in 3 mashed bananas, 1/2 cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla until combined. Pour in to dish and bake for 1 & 1/4 hours or until skewer inserted comes out clean. Rest for 5 minutes before turning onto wire rack. Delicious right now, or toasted tomorrow.

East Coast Lounge

I am absolutely in love with this shoot that I styled and photographed with Sophie Housego last week at East Coast Lounge in Chowder Bay, Sydney. This table setting is an easy and simple way to set up a small gathering. The blue and green tones sit perfectly with the raw and rustic brown tones and white. The table setting works for a seaside or country venue.

Scandinavian Interiors

I personally love Scandinavian design and here are just a few key points about it in regards to interior styling and design. The Scandi trend generally has predominantly white walls and floors, natural fabrics and surfaces, which leaves you free to add personality with fun patterns and vibrant colour pops. The Scandinavian style is depicted through light wash timbers, white finishes, pastel influences, organic shapes, retro inspired pieces, clean lines, geometric prints, fabric accents and has a Danish or Retro style to the interior space. Here are some inspiration images of Scandinavian inspired interior design.

Country Entertainment

I have strong memories of my childhood in the country enjoying appetisers at the many outdoor BBQ’s my parents and friends had. It was all about bringing a plate to share, having a casual outdoor dinner party with the whole family and of course eating too much.

The concept of portable food goes all the way back to Italy and France. Italians love bringing plates of food to share on the terrace with their family, while when in France you must carry one of the most amazing baguettes ever to have with the most delicious cheese that you find at a gorgeous little deli hidden away. This is where us Aussie draw our casual laid-back approach to entertaining. This was one of my favourite things growing up, Mum and Dad inviting our family friends over for a backyard feast. Many people cringe at the idea of bring your own plate but there is nothing better then getting to try and experience what others bring, though after a few gathering with the same people you end up with the same nibbles every time followed by a classic BBQ. But don’t stress here are many easy and quick ideas that not only taste amazing but look delicious as well. If you are the host you can easily dress up your table with some fresh flowers, green garnishes, beautiful wooden boards, stunning silverware and a nice tablecloth. And there you have it a low-key, stunning outdoor party.
